Starting from a classical sculpture of Hercules and Achelous, I explored my process of artistic synthesis step by step. From proportions to volumes, from structure to energy, I show how I reduce complexity into essential forms while keeping the final image engaging and powerful. This article is both a personal diary of my creative workflow and a guide for anyone interested in illustration, composition, and the search for expressive clarity.
#1: Proportions
A scene that works well cannot do without a solid structure. The first step is therefore to define the distances between the parts of the subject in order to achieve a credible and balanced composition. The blue lines are used to check that the shapes are similar to the original.
#2: Volumes
In this stage I tried to simplify the subject using elementary shapes. I sought to summarize the anatomy with the square, the circle, and the triangle, which represent the maximum level of possible synthesis. My goal is always to achieve an illustration that is immediately understandable at first glance. For this reason, I try to reduce the structural lines as much as I can.
#3: Energy
At the same time as reducing the subject into simple polygons, I focused on ensuring the best harmony between its parts. I made adjustments in size and positioning until I found the right energy lines (in orange). Now the composition follows a flow that starts from the bottom left (Hercules’ right foot) and releases at the snake’s neck.
Throughout every stage of the process, I stay focused on the final goal: every line, shape, texture, and light must work together to create a result that feels sexy. The finished image should catch the eye and, if only for a moment, leave the viewer surprised and enchanted.
In conclusion, a Contemporary Brand Mascot holds significant importance in communicating a brand’s values in a unique and immediate manner. Its ability to forge emotional connections, mirror modernity, and distinguish the brand in a crowded marketplace makes it an integral element in conveying the Brand Purpose. The strategic utilization of this resource can yield a lasting impact on the brand’s perception within its targeted audience. By embracing the power of a well-crafted mascot, brands can not only enhance their visibility but also create a more profound and meaningful dialogue with their consumers, ultimately driving engagement and loyalty.
